Wall Street malfeasance, Tiger Wood’s “indiscretions” and even tragedies like Columbine and Virginia Tech may be viewed in a whole new way after recent research from MIT.
MIT researchers have found your moral center. Not surprisingly, it’s located in your brain. Turn’s out – it’s just above your right ear.
The report states, ” The researchers used a noninvasive technique known as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to selectively interfere with brain activity in the right temporo-parietal junction (TJP). A magnetic field applied to a small area of the skull creates weak electric currents that impede nearby brain cells’ ability to fire normally …”.
The chances are better than 50/50 this is the same ear you zap with microwave radiation from your cellphone. If you are a trader on Wall Street, a time-challenged celebrity or an obsessive teenager, this exposure may be for hours a day, day in and day out.
Research scientists everywhere may want to rethink the definition of “noninvasive”. Because with 4.6 billion cellphone users out there, seems many millions are disabling their morals.
The financial industry over the last 25 years has been “on cellphones.” To many, it seems as if our captains of industry have lost their moral compasses. These were early adopters of the Motorola ‘brick phone’ and have been living and sleeping with their cellphones ever since.
Tiger Woods texting enthusiasm is well publicized. You might guess he has Blackberrys and iPhones in every room. These most popular smart phones also have the highest radiation as measured by specific absorption rate. http://www.ewg.org/cellphone-radiation
Finally, if were able to get the cellphone records of the Columbine or Virginia Tech players, one imagines they’d easily be in the top 5% of users. Throw in their computer and iPod use and exposure is pretty much 24/7. In fact, investigation of all dangerous pathological behavior should be researched anew now that we know technology can make our morals flexible.
Magnetic fields do other things too.
Besides knocking out moral sense, magnetic fields also affect impulse control, memory, learning, attention, “can trigger hallucinations, separate people from their sense of self and induce God-like feelings.” And oh yeah, electromagnetic fields also trigger endorphins which is the addiction pathway.
So, after you finish your next cellphone marathon? Take comfort – a brain tumor is the least of your worries.
